Sworn Officer eligibility tool

Check your eligibility before you apply

Before you start

Applying to become a sworn member of the AFP requires commitment and time.

This self‑assessment tool helps you check whether you may be eligible to apply as a Police Officer or Protective Service Officer. It highlights factors that could affect your suitability and helps you decide whether to continue with an application.

The information provided is a general guide only. It does not guarantee eligibility or an offer of employment.

The self‑assessment includes 22 questions and takes up to 15 minutes to complete. Your responses are not recorded, and you will not be asked to provide any personal or identifying information.

If you choose to apply, you will be required to provide detailed information and complete a rigorous recruitment process to determine whether you meet the AFP’s inherent requirements.
