Iran-born man charged with alleged visa breaches in Victoria

An Iran-born man is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today (1 May, 2025) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 43, today (1 May, 2025), after locating him in Melbourne.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa by failing to maintain his electronic monitoring device.  

The man has been charged with:

  • Two counts of failing to maintain an electronic monitoring device, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
