Iran-born man charged with alleged visa breaches in Western Australia

An Iran-born man has appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court today (25 February, 2025) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 39, today after he was located in Perth.

It will be alleged the man breached a condition of his Commonwealth visa on 18 February, 2025, and on 21 February, 2025, by failing to maintain his electronic monitoring device.

The man has been charged with:

  • Two counts of failing to ensure his monitoring device remained in good working order, contrary to section 76D of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine for each offence.

He was granted bail and is expected to return before the same court on 28 March, 2025.
