NT man charged over alleged threats to Commonwealth politicians

A Girraween man is expected to appear in the Northern Territory Local Court today (27 November, 2024) charged with allegedly sending threatening and harassing emails to three Commonwealth politicians.

The AFP charged the man, 24, yesterday (26 November, 2024) after arresting him at his workplace in Darwin City. Investigators executed search warrants, including his vehicle, and seized electronic devices on which the alleged threatening correspondence was found.

The man has been charged with:

  • Two counts of using a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm to a person, contrary to subsection 474.15(2) of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth);
  • One count of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, contrary to section 474.17 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth); and
  • One count of possessing a controlled drug, namely cannabis, contrary to section 308.1 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

The maximum penalty for these offences is seven years', three years', and two years' imprisonment respectively.
