Perth man charged over alleged threat to shoot a federal government advisor
A Perth man is expected to appear in court next month charged with allegedly making a threat on social media to shoot a government advisor.
On 12 August, 2026, the AFP received a report about a social media post allegedly threatening the advisor.
Following inquiries by the AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team, a search warrant was executed at a Morley residence today (30 September, 2026).
A man, 68, was charged with one count of using a carriage service in a way that is menacing, contrary to section 474.17 of the Criminal Code (Cth).
This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.
He was granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on 28 October, 2026.
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia’s social cohesion, including the targeting of the Jewish community.
