Somali-born man charged with five alleged visa breaches in Victoria

A Somali-born man appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday (15 October, 2025) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions.

The AFP attended Heidelberg Police Station and charged the man, 42, on Tuesday (14 October, 2025), after he was arrested by Victoria Police on an unrelated matter.

The AFP will allege the man breached a condition of his Commonwealth visa by failing to comply with his visa reporting conditions.

The man was charged with five counts of failing to comply with visa reporting conditions, contrary to section 76B of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

These offences each carry a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine for each offence.

The man was formally refused bail by the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday (15 October, 2025). He is scheduled to next appear before the same court on 7 January, 2025.
