Somalia-born man charged with alleged visa breaches and drug offences in South Australia

A Somalia-born man will appear before the Adelaide Magistrates Court today (12 June, 2025) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions and possessing a controlled drug. 

The AFP charged the man, 44, yesterday (11 June, 2025), after he was located in Adelaide.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa six times between 24 April, 2025, and 10 June, 2025. It will also be alleged AFP officers located a controlled drug in the man’s possession following his arrest. 

The man has been charged with: 

  • Six counts of failing to remain at a notified address, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is five years’ imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine; and 
  • One count of possessing a controlled drug, contrary to section 308.1 of the Criminal Code (Cth). This offence carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment and/or a $132,000 fine.
