Sudan-born man charged with alleged visa breach in Victoria

A Sudan-born man is set to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court today (15 May, 2025) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.  

The AFP charged the man, 43, today after he was located in Melbourne and arrested by Victoria Police, with the assistance of the AFP, on an unrelated matter. 

It will be alleged the man breached one of the conditions of his Commonwealth visa by failing to maintain his electronic monitoring device on 2 May, 2025.  

The man has been charged with:  

  • One count of failing to ensure monitoring device remains in good working order, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth). 

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
