Media statement: Operation Moonbi update
The public release of images and descriptions of children's clothing as part of the AFP’s Operation Moonbi has resulted in the identification of three previously unidentified victims.
The images were released on 16 July, 2026, as investigators sought community input into their investigation into alleged offending by a former Sydney childcare worker.
A multi-agency Local Contact Point (LCP), which ran from 13-26 July, received more than 460 calls from members of the community in relation to Operation Moonbi.
Before the LCP process began, 136 victims had been positively identified as part of the AFP investigation.
As of 6 August, 2026, a further nine victims have been positively identified thanks to information provided through the LCP process. In total, 145 victims have been positively identified as part of Operation Moonbi.
The AFP has contacted the victims and their families and offered tailored support, depending on their circumstances.
At this stage, the total victim count in relation to Operation Moonbi has not increased.
Parents and carers who wish to contact the AFP in relation to Operation Moonbi can email op-moonbi@afp.gov.au. The Operation Moonbi website will continue to be active and monitored by the AFP and is expected to be taken down in late September.
