Investigative assistants work support our investigative teams, working alongside our sworn members. By reducing their administrative load, you'll help to drive the AFP's agenda forward.
The experience you'll gain can be used to expand your investigative career, by:
- transitioning to a sworn police officer or protective service officer role
- transitioning into a specialisation, like:
What you'll do
As an investigative assistant, you'll:
- support operations and our Major Incident Room (MIR) with research, transcription, rostering, data entry and by preparing briefs and court material
- use electronic police databases to create cases, input and collate data, audit and finalise cases
- support corporate objectives by:
- compiling performance reports and data quality assurance
- managing and distributing operational compliance reports and operational activity reports
- provide administrative tasks, including asset and equipment management, drafting and filing documents, managing interpreters or witnesses, providing hospitality or event management
- provide corporate support, including procurement, budget or financial management, travel arrangement, contractor liaison, fleet maintenance and onboarding
- liaise with Forensics and Property and Exhibits teams and manage property and exhibits, including data entry, continuity of exhibits during forensic procedures, returning or destroying property.

Eligibility
To join our team as an investigative assistant you must:
- be aged 18 years or over
- be an Australian citizen
- be able to obtain a high-level security clearance.
As this position covers a broad skillset, it's also good if you can:
- work well with people
- manage your time (and other people's) efficiently
- work calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment
- approach any challenge with a can-do attitude
- use the Microsoft Word suite and teleconferencing programs at an intermediate to advanced level
- speak multiple languages (for overseas posts).
Before being offered a job with us you'll also need to:
- complete our Employment Suitability Questionnaire
- provide your traffic history for the last 10 years
- undergo mandatory drug testing and provide your fingerprints.
