Afghanistan-born man charged with alleged visa breach in NSW

An Afghanistan-born man is set to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court today (3 October, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 46, yesterday (2 October, 2024) after he was located in Sydney.

It will be alleged the man breached one of the conditions of his Commonwealth visa on 1 October, 2024, by failing to maintain his electronic monitoring device.

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with a requirement of certain bridging visas, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
