NSW man sentenced following online threats towards federal parliamentarian
A New South Wales man was yesterday (17 September 2026) sentenced by the Downing Centre Local Court following online threats towards a Federal Parliamentarian.
AFP National Security Investigators (NSI) launched an investigation in January, 2026, following notification of a threatening email towards the parliamentarian.
In March, 2026, the man, 43, was arrested and charged by the AFP in relation to the threats. In August, 2026 the man pled guilty to the offences.
Yesterday (17 September 2026) a Local Court Judge sentenced the man to a 14-month Intensive Supervision Community Corrections Order.
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia’s social cohesion, including the targeting of federal parliamentarians.
