Queensland man to face court for displaying Nazi symbols

A Queensland man is expected to appear before court next month, to be charged with displaying prohibited Nazi symbols online.

An AFP investigation began in June, 2026, after officers identified a social media account allegedly publishing prohibited Nazi symbols alongside racist, white supremacist, nationalist and anti-LGBTQIA+ content.

The AFP’s National Security Investigations (NSI) team executed a search warrant yesterday (30 September, 2026) at a Mudgeeraba residence, seizing a mobile phone.

The man, 49, was issued a notice to appear for one count of publicly displaying prohibited Nazi symbols, contrary to section 80.2H of the Criminal Code (Cth).

The maximum penalty for this offence is five years’ imprisonment.

He is set to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 16 November, 2026.

AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia’s social cohesion, including the targeting of the Jewish community.
