Afghanistan-born man charged with alleged visa breach in Sydney

An Afghanistan-born man has appeared before Parramatta Local Court today (28 February, 2025), charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.

The man, 30, was arrested last night (27 February, 2025), after he was located in Sydney.

It will be alleged the man breached a condition of his Commonwealth visa between 11 February, and 27 February, 2025, by failing to maintain his electronic monitoring device.

The man has been charged with one count of failing to ensure his monitoring device remained in good working order, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

The man was refused bail and is scheduled to reappear before Parramatta Local Court on 2 May, 2025.

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine.
