A northern Sydney man has been charged by the AFP’s National Security Investigations (NSI) today (20 October, 2026) with displaying prohibited Nazi symbols online.

The AFP began an investigation in June, 2026, after receiving a report which allegedly identified an online user publishing prohibited Nazi symbols and antisemitic comments on social media platforms.

NSI investigators executed a search warrant at a home in the northern Sydney suburb of Mount Colah earlier today and seized electronic devices– including a mobile phone and USB– for forensic examination.

The man, 73, was charged with four counts of publicly displaying prohibited Nazi symbols, contrary to section 80.2H of the Criminal Code (Cth).

The maximum penalty for this offence is five years’ imprisonment.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear in Hornsby Local Court on 11 November, 2026.

AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia’s social cohesion, including the targeting of the Jewish community.
